Situated in the centre of the rich Dordogne region of South- West France, just above the banks of the Dordogne river, St Cyprien is a traditional quiet medieval village. It has an ancient abbey, and picturesque medieval streets. St Cyprien has many shops, patisseries, and restaurants within walking distance from our house. St Cyprien has a fabulous local market each Sunday morning.
Surrounding St Cyprien are many places of interest, such as the village of Les Eyyzies, and the Templar village of Domme.
Sarlat is a small medieval market town nearby of great historical interest, with a market on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and many restaurants.
There are many prehistoric sites and cave paintings to visit in the area. Lascaux is the best known, but there is the Grotte de Font de Gaume very near where you see the original paintings.
St Christophe and the Madeleine are a very interesting trogladyte (built into caves on a steep hillside) village nearby.
